Prayer for Dad Brock—Accident & Recovery

Dad Brock was recently in a serious accident. Just before New Years, Mom & Dad were doing a routine trip to recycle trash. The car slipped back into reverse as Dad was getting out of the SUV (Trooper). The driver side door knocked him hard to the ground on his right thigh and then the car came around and over him, pinning him under the front axel. No part of his body was run over by the tires—which is a miracle. When he was knocked to the ground, he suffered a broken blood vessel (under his thigh bone) resulting in serious internal bleeding. He was dragged under the car, suffering 4 broken ribs and lacerated hands/face (his right hand became wedged under the front left tire (driver side) stopping the vehicle from further movement. (Our son John helped to free Dad’s hand)

This was a total ambush from the enemy—and we have no doubt God spared his life that night. He had just preached 2 Sundays in a row and we (he and Tim) were slated to co-conduct the night watch at the PRC (Penney Farms Retirement Center) Memorial church—their first night watch combining worship & prayer. (It was Dad’s desire that we continue with the service, taking his place—which we did and experienced considerable breakthrough—the Joy of the Lord is our Strength!)

Dad is doing very well—currently in a rehab center, receiving physical therapy after 3 surgeries to his right thigh area. Later he transitioned from Shands ICU to a local rehab facility near Orange Park, FL. He should be coming home as early as this Tuesday (18th). Thank you so much for your prayer for both Mom and Dad as they begin to transition home: for total restoration of Dad’s right leg & clarity/strength for Mom and Sis.

The Boys

All are being home-schooled through a Classical Conversations co-op. (They get tutored once a week, and have the rest of the week to complete their assignments. It’s a tough but enjoyable program. The older boys write 1 – 2 papers a week, and present often in front of their peers. Joseph has a lot of memorization, many times with music and games.

Last fall, the three older boys received a scholarship to play football with a home-school league. The JV’s made it to the playoffs with John’s athletic gifting coming through. We also play family soccer regularly with other families in the community.

Samuel is in the Charlotte Symphony Youth Orchestra and received a scholarship to study violin with the director, who is also a principal player in the Charlotte Symphony. He also helps lead worship sets with the youth group. The three younger boys are taking violin lessons from Mom. John and Joseph are also starting Suzuki piano, and Stephen is continuing Suzuki guitar from Dad.

Ministry Report

We had the privilege of ministering with Dad Brock at their local church, New Beginnings, (Middleburg, FL) the Sunday before his accident. Dad preached and we ministered in worship. (That evening, Dec 26, we gave an hour concert at PCR). We then led the Penney Farms Retirement community in a News Year Eve Night Watch. Tim took his dad’s place in the formal service and our family led the prayer & worship watch-service that followed. The “closeness” of God came in a time when we all needed Him. God so allows things to draw us into prayer.

We are now in our 2nd year of sowing into a regional prayer community in the Fort Mill area. We helped give leadership to 3 large community gatherings (coinciding with the 3 main Feasts of the Lord): Passover, Pentecost and Tabernacles. These helped to kick-off two 24/3 prayer “bursts” in a strategic “trans-local” church, each spanning 72 hours of continuous worship & prayer. Now after 12 months, a blended, cross-generational prayer expression continues to grow within this local church & region. A culture of 24/7 worship & prayer continues to form!

In addition to our typical summer outreach, we taught a musical skill enhancement workshop at the Cranford (NJ) Intl. House of Prayer, Eastern Gate. We trained over 25 musicians & worship leaders and Samuel taught his first sound-scape & technology class. The focus: developing instrument-led “Selahs” for “finding the river” in worship.

Current Activities & Looking Ahead

Presently, we have one community prayer meeting weekly at Morningstar, and lead two soaking prayer sessions at our home. We also have family worship and prayer daily. Both Tim and Melody are teaching a few older students, grooming some of them for teaching the younger generation. We are now in our 7th year of full-time ministry.

We recently conducted our first local music workshop (melodic ear-training & rhythm) for over 20 (mostly) young people from the community. We have not yet been released to start a full scale school here in Fort Mill, as there are still many foundational changes happening at Morningstar. We feel that we are to be conducting more 2 to 3 day workshops at various churches & prayer houses in the coming year. We also sense that we may be traveling as “Musicianaries” to the Middle East to minister, train & perform.

Thoughts >From the Prayer Room

His Name is Wonderful—“Why do you ask my Name, seeing it is wonderful (incomprehensible) Jesus is wonderful in whatever He does. God doesn’t always tell us everything, but He does answer with fire and show us His ways at the altar of submission & worship. “For it came about when the flame went up from the altar to heaven…the Lord ascended in the flame of the altar.” Let Him “wow” us this year—this year of things too great for us—too marvelous to comprehend, all that He is doing. (Judges 13:18-20)

My Dad’s “Flukey” Accident: Seeing my 84 year old father pinned under his own SUV, broken and bleeding—and yet so peaceful—was total trauma. After a rush trip, life-saving surgery, 2 blood transfusions and the concern of knowing flukey things can still happen—my Mom and I ended our all-night vigil at Shands Hospital in downtown Jacksonville (FL). Later, my Dad said to me: “This reminds me of your mugging in NYC…” As I process these words in the aftermath of my Dad’s accident, I sense the Lord is trying to get my attention—to inquire of Him. For me, my “Brooklyn-Baptism-Mugging” was a pivot point that launched me into full-time ministry some 18 years later. Now, I feel God is saying seek Me on a yet deeper level. My Dad has always been my chief counselor—and he continues to be a shepherd in his community. When a spiritual leader is struck down, I believe God is trying to get our attention. If you know him, my Dad’s life represents consecrated prayer & counsel. For me, it is a call to intentionally seek the Lord’s counsel for such a time.

The Likes We’ve Never Seen—Fathers and Sons Flowing in Unity: The relationship of Jesus, the Son of God, to His Father is a deep well. There is so much to learn from the way they flowed together—giving us a picture of how it was and is and should be. Its an unstoppable force of love, where the Father resources everything and the Son executes their shared desire, becoming one in purpose!

These are like the Days of Noah—Tipping Point: Judgment vs. Worldwide Revival. According to Jewish tradition, after 120 years of warnings, the rains of Noah’s flood began gently—giving people one more opportunity to repent. Their repentance could have lead to a global revival—which is what God desired. Another flood (on the scale of Noah) is coming: An invasion of the Holy Spirit, unprecedented! For those who are ready, indescribable glory, but for those who aren’t, a tidal wave of seeming chaos. What is the ark (of safety) for our day? The restoration of the Tabernacle of David, centers of worship providing refuge & access to God’s saving Presence!

David’s Daily MO—Psalm 108: “…I will awaken the dawn…sing praises…among the nations…[that I] may be delivered.” David’s MO was simple: Start the day with worship and watch God (in prayerful partnership) work out the details, bringing answers and deliverance—as every day requires! God’s administration comes through daily prayer and watching, then acting.

Benefits of Intimacy: It’s all about a love relationship with Him, our fiancé. As we ask to know His ways, asking Him to exchange our thoughts for His thoughts, we can enter into Kingdom living. Abide in Me and I in Him. Apart from Him we can do Nothing. He has works prepared ahead of time for us to walk in, including the “greater works.” If we say that we see, we don’t. When we acknowledge that we don’t see, then He reveals and shows us what we do not know. (John 9) He is calling us into the supernatural, resting from our own works (flesh). As we ask for Him to take us into this (intimate) place, He answers because for everyone who asks, receives. All things are possible. There is no lack in the kingdom. He is the Head over all rule and authority. He took away power from all other rulers and authorities, making a public display of them. They have no power except what we give them through fear, unforgiveness, and lack of focus on Him. (Whatever we focus on becomes bigger.) There is nothing we can’t handle when we enter into His rest, yielding completely to Him. The opposition always attacks in our weak areas. When we enter into conflict, we can thank the Lord for allowing our weaknesses to be exposed and to ask for His strategy on how to overcome (for where we are weak, He is strong.) The intimate life of prayer is exciting as He takes us to places we never dreamed. (Melody Brock)
